CPR/AED/FIRST AID CLASSES

At the YMCA, we’re proud to offer American Red Cross certification courses in CPR, AED, and First Aid, essential skills that can help save lives. Interested in becoming a lifeguard? Our Train to Work program is a free opportunity that prepares you with everything you need to succeed, from lifeguard training to job readiness. Aquatic Programs at the YMCA

  • Lifeguard Certification

    Step 1: Complete a pre-test! The pre-test includes:

    • A 150-yard swim into treading water for 2 minutes, then an additional 50-yard swim.
    • Retrieving a 10lb brick from 8 feet deep, then swimming 20 yards on your back using only your legs

    Step 2: After passing the pre-test, visit the front desk to register for your course! Remember, it’s first-come, first-served, and spots fill up quickly.

    Step 3: The Y is hiring at a l locations! Submit an application on our website to be invited in for a group interview!

     

  • Junior Lifeguard

    Jr Lifeguard is a fun and educational program for youth ages 11-14. Participants will learn what it takes to be a Lifeguard. This program encourages leadership development in the area of aquatic safety with a goal to prepare and motivate participants to become lifeguards through a separate certification course. Participants will review water safety, rescue skills, first aid and CPR skills, swim conditioning and have the chance to shadow lifeguards in real rotations to get a sense of the job.

  • Train to Work

    The Train to Work program will provide free support needed to build your swimming ability to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and assist participants in obtaining an American Red Cross lifeguard certification. Preregistration is required.

    Limited scholarships are available. Lifeguard certification costs will be covered for our shallow water course and based on need. Please contact aquatics@lasvegasymca.org for consideration.

     

  • Junior Lifeguard

  • CPR / AED / FIRST AID CLASSES

    Lifeguard courses prepare participants to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide professional level care until EMS arrives. A pretest is required, including a 200-yard swim, 2 minutes of hands-free treading, and a timed 10 lb. weighted object retrieval from deep water.

     

    Cost: $85

     

    Durango Hills or Centennial Hills Y (alternates monthly)

     

    Note: This is a blended learning course that includes both in-person instruction and online training. The online portion MUST be completed before the physical class.
