At the Las Vegas YMCA, our aquatics programs offer more than just safety in the water. Learning to swim helps develop self-esteem, encourages healthy activity, and creates a safe, fun environment for life. We offer a variety of aquatics classes and activities for all ages and skill levels, including swim lessons, swim team, swim camp, Arthritic Splash, Aquafit, Power Aqua Fitness, Aqua Zumba, and lifeguard certification courses.

Swim Lessons

Year-round swim lessons are available at our indoor pool, Centennial Hills YMCA, along with our summer swim lessons at our seasonal pools, Durango Hills and Heinrich YMCA.

Parent Child Lessons

Introduce little ones to the water with guided lessons that build comfort, confidence, and basic swim skills alongside a parent or guardian.

Preschool Lessons

Fun, age-appropriate swim lessons that help preschoolers develop water safety skills and confidence in the pool.

Youth Lessons

Help kids strengthen swimming techniques, build endurance, and stay safe in and around the water.

Teen and Adult Lessons

  • Aquatic Group Exercise Classes

    Join us in the water, and enjoy a low impact workout. FREE fitness classes are another value of a Y membership. Classes vary by location.

     

    Arthritic Splash

    Arthritic Splash is a gentle, water-based fitness class designed specifically for individuals with arthritis or joint discomfort. Held in our heated therapy pool, this low-impact workout uses the natural resistance and buoyancy of water to improve flexibility, balance, and strength, without putting stress on the joints. It’s a soothing way to stay active, reduce pain, and move with ease in a supportive, warm-water environment.

     

    Aqua Fitness*

    Aqua Fitness classes offer a fun, low-impact way to stay active while taking advantage of the natural resistance and support of the water. Perfect for all fitness levels, these classes improve strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance, without the stress on joints. Whether you’re looking to tone muscles, boost mobility, or simply enjoy an energizing workout in the pool, aqua fitness is a refreshing way to make a splash in your fitness routine.

  • Swim Team and Pre-Swim Team

    Come be part of a great aquatics program! The Y Swim Team is a developmental swim program run by trained coaches to improve swimmers’ competitive skills and endurance through progression rather than intense competition. The Y swim team promotes healthy lifestyles while embracing the four core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring.

    For those who have completed levels 1-6 of swim lessons, the Pre-Swim Team is designed for kids who love swimming and have goals of joining a swim team. Swimmers who haven’t decided if the swim team is right for them will enjoy Pre-Swim Team.

    • Tryouts for joining swim team are available on Tuesdays or Thursday at 7pm. Upon arrival, please ask the lifeguard to direct you to the swim coach.
    • Your swimmer will be asked to demonstrate the following:
      • Year Round Swim Team:
        • 50 yards of each stroke: butterfly,  breaststroke and front crawl with side breathing and back crawl with flip turns. Based on endurance and stroke, swimmer will be asked to complete additional yardage to confirm if they will be on Beginner,  Intermediate or Advanced Swim Team.
      • Summer Swim Team:
        • 25 yards of each stroke: butterfly,  breaststroke and front crawl with side breathing and back crawl with flip turns or 50 yards of front crawl with side breathing and back stroke.
        • There is only one practice time for Summer swim team. Swimmers will be placed in various lanes based on their skill level.
  • Beginner Water Polo

    Splashball is designed to introduce the sport of Water Polo for beginners. The intent is to provide basic skills and understanding of the sport in a fun, recreational format. Although Water Polo is known for its toughness and endurance, Splashball harnesses all the fun and dynamic aspects of the game in a safe, easy-to-learn aquatic experience that will motivate kids to swim and stay fit!

     

     

  • CPR, AED and First Aid Courses

    • ADULT/PEDIATRIC CPR/AED 
      • Gain the skills to respond to adults/pediatric first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies. This OSHA-compliant certification course includes an online portion that must be completed before the in-person session.
    • CPR/AED FOR PROFESSIONAL RESCUER
      • This advanced-level CPR/AED course prepares professional rescuers to confidently respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies, including AED, BVM, and multi-rescuer response training.
      • *CPR/AED and First Aid certification is included in Lifeguard training.
  • Lifeguard Certification

    Learn how to save a life! It’s as easy as 1-2-3! At the YMCA we are certified to teach American Red Cross Lifeguard courses.

    Step 1: Come to a pre-test. Pre-tests are Thursdays at 6:15pm at Durango Hills YMCA.

    The pre-test includes:

    • A 150-yard swim into treading water for 2 minutes, then an additional 50-yard swim.
    • Retrieving a 10lb brick from 8 feet deep, then swimming 20 yards on your back using only your legs

    Step 2: After passing the pre-test, visit the front desk to register for your course! Remember it’s first come-first serve and spots fill up quickly.

    Step 3: The Y is hiring at all locations! Submit an application on our website to be invited in for a group interview!

  • Train to Work

    The Train to Work program will provide free support needed to build your swimming ability to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and assist participants in obtaining an American Red Cross lifeguard certification. Preregistration is required.

    Limited scholarships are available. Lifeguard certification costs will be covered for our shallow water course and based on need. Please contact aquatics lasvegasymca.org for consideration.
