Learning to swim offers so much more than safety in the water. It builds self-confidence, develops self-esteem and makes water a safe, fun environment for a lifetime! Here at the Las Vegas YMCA, we host several aquatics programs, including swim lessons, a swim team and swim camp, Arthritic Splash, Aquafit, Power Aqua Fitness, Aqua Zumba and even a lifeguard certification course.

Aquatics Programs

Swimming is one of life’s most essential skills: the ability to swim can help save your life or someone else’s life, while introducing you to a lifetime of healthy, enjoyable activity in the water.

  • Aquatic Group Exercise Classes

Join us in the water, and enjoy a low impact workout. FREE fitness classes are another value of a Y membership. Classes vary by location.

    Arthritic Splash

Arthritic Splash is a gentle, water-based fitness class designed specifically for individuals with arthritis or joint discomfort. Held in our heated therapy pool, this low-impact workout uses the natural resistance and buoyancy of water to improve flexibility, balance, and strength, without putting stress on the joints. It’s a soothing way to stay active, reduce pain, and move with ease in a supportive, warm-water environment.

    Aqua Fitness*

Aqua Fitness classes offer a fun, low-impact way to stay active while taking advantage of the natural resistance and support of the water. Perfect for all fitness levels, these classes improve strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance, without the stress on joints. Whether you’re looking to tone muscles, boost mobility, or simply enjoy an energizing workout in the pool, aqua fitness is a refreshing way to make a splash in your fitness routine.

    *Water shoes recommended.

  • Swim Team and Pre-Swim Team

Come be part of a great aquatics experience! The Y Swim Team is a developmental swim program run by trained coaches to improve swimmers’ competitive skills and endurance through progression rather than intense competition. The Y swim team promotes healthy lifestyles while embracing the four core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring.

For those who have completed levels 1-6 of swim lessons, the Pre-Swim Team is designed for kids who love swimming and have goals of joining a swim team. Swimmers who haven’t decided if the swim team is right for them will enjoy Pre-Swim Team.

  • Beginner Water Polo

Splashball is designed to introduce the sport of Water Polo for beginners. The intent is to provide basic skills and understanding of the sport in a fun, recreational format. Although Water Polo is known for its toughness and endurance, Splashball harnesses all the fun and dynamic aspects of the game in a safe, easy-to-learn aquatic experience that will motivate kids to swim and stay fit!

  • CPR, AED and First Aid Courses

Whether you’re interested in becoming a Lifeguard or just want to learn these important life-saving skills, our CPR/AED/First Aid Certification is offered during various times of the year and is accredited by The American Red Cross.

  • Lifeguard Certification

Learn how to save a life! It’s as easy as 1-2-3! At the YMCA we are certified to teach American Red Cross Lifeguard courses.

Step 1: Come to a pretest. Email info@lasvegasymca.org for dates and times for lifeguard pretests.

    The pre-test includes:

    • A 150-yard swim into treading water for 2 minutes, then an additional 50-yard swim.
    • Retrieving a 10lb brick from 8 feet deep, then swimming 20 yards on your back using only your legs

Step 2: After passing the pre-test, visit the front desk to register for your course! Remember it’s first come-first serve and spots fill up quickly.

Step 3: The Y is hiring at all locations! Submit an application on our website to be invited in for a group interview!

  • Train to Work

The Train to Work program will provide free support needed to build your swimming ability to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and assist participants in obtaining an American Red Cross lifeguard certification. Preregistration is required.
